ENGIE Deutschland strengthens its renewable energy business

23 October 2020
  • ENGIE Deutschland is repositioning its Renewables business to develop and implement even more future-oriented solutions for wind, solar, water and storage activities
  • Ralf Schürkamp heads the division, which includes wind farms, rooftop and outdoor solar thermal systems as well as storage and hydroelectric power plants
  • The restructuring will pay for the growth plans of the ENGIE Group in the renewable energy sector

October 23, 2020 - ENGIE Deutschland GmbH strengthens its position in renewable energies: Starting immediately, the expert teams for wind, solar, storage and water activities will be working together even more closely and across technologies in an integrated and personnel-reinforced organization – from planning and project development to construction, operation and maintenance of plants. The aim is to develop the most efficient systems and the best solutions for customers, as Ralf Schürkamp from ENGIE Deutschland emphasizes. Since May 2020, the 48-year-old planning engineer has been responsible for the Renewables business unit, which includes 13 wind farms and various roof-mounted solar plants as well as storage and hydroelectric power plants throughout Germany: "In order to achieve the Federal Government's increased expansion targets for photovoltaics and for wind on land, as provided for in the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) amendment, we as ENGIE must increase our speed when developing projects," says Ralf Schürkamp. "In Germany, we have the best conditions for this – both through our competent teams on site and through the expertise of the ENGIE Group with 800 locations worldwide, which together advance the topic of renewable energies."

Customized solutions for wind and solar parks

ENGIE Deutschland also includes the ENGIE subsidiary TEVARO, which develops wind power and outdoor photovoltaic projects, in the restructuring. SOLARIMO – a company that was launched three years ago as an internal incubator for photovoltaic tenant power and has since developed into a leading provider of tenant electricity projects throughout Germany – is now also part of the Renewables division. "Thanks to SOLARIMO, we have already acquired extensive expertise in green electricity from the roof in residential properties. In the future, we will also make this know-how available to our industrial and commercial customers for complex roof-mounted systems," explains Ralf Schürkamp. Furthermore, ENGIE Deutschland is well prepared for the expiry of EEG funding for the first wind and solar parks from 2021: The leading specialist for technology, energy and service offers plant operators tailor-made solutions, ranging from long-term supply contracts (PPAs) to the handling of existing plants.

Leading role in the energy transition

The restructuring is linked to the growth plans of ENGIE Deutschland's parent company: The French ENGIE Group is pursuing the mission of becoming one of the leading companies in the energy transition and accelerating its development in the field of renewable energies. The Group currently has an installed renewable energy output of 28 gigawatts worldwide. The annual increase is currently three gigawatts and is expected to be raised to four gigawatts in the medium term. In this way, the ENGIE Group underlines its goal of becoming a world leader in the transition to climate neutrality.

Shaping a climate-neutral world: that is the goal that drives ENGIE
