Whether in business, industry or in private households in conjunction with a renewables: The use of modern battery storage is worthwhile. ENGIE in Germany supports you in intelligently exploiting the potential for consumption and marketing.
They are the game changer for the energy transition: Battery energy storage systems (BESS). Thanks to their ability to operate flexibility, they stabilize the power grid and thereby allow more RES to come in whilst keeping the lights on. They can be installed directly on the grid at scale, onsite for industrials, but nowadays also close to our homes, be it in our garage or electrical vehicles. Their strengths can be put to good use to
The combination of BESS with renewable energy projects harnesses the strengths of both technologies, storing excess energy generated during peak production times for later use, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply, and enhancing grid stability. By integrating BESS with renewable energies, we facilitate a more efficient and sustainable energy ecosystem, providing financial and environmental benefits and contributing to the advancement of clean energy solutions. Therefore co-location projects come with considerable advantages. By integrating diverse technologies or services at a single site, we achieve greater efficiencies, lower expenses, and boost sustainability.
ENGIE is investing in large scale Batterie systems world-wide in its core markets to foster the energy transition. This via our Flexible Generation business unit with the view to serve networks and provide flexibility to markets.
Peak Shaving: Reduce electricity purchase costs for industry and commerce
Companies with high electricity consumption in particular benefit from the use of a battery storage system. This allows you to cushion your peak loads - whether they are caused by machine start-ups, power-intensive processes or charging the company's electric fleet - and reduce the burden on your electricity bill.
It pays off: Intelligent peak shaving can sometimes save 20 percent of the power price costs from the grid charges. With favorable reference profiles and depending on the available systems, even more savings can be achieved: Customers with a high, even power consumption save up to 80 percent of grid usage costs through innovative projects. On average, this corresponds to 20 percent of the energy bill.
In addition to energy cost savings projects, we implement uninterruptible power supply projects at your site. ENGIE Secure Power Systems combines battery storage and emergency power units and handles construction and maintenance.
Battery energy systems have the ability to make money on various types of markets, be it wholesale (intraday, day-ahead) or ancillary (FCR, aFRR, mFRR), but as well on various adjacent products that can be specific to your asset (blackstart, redispatch, congestion management).
At ENGIE, we support you in the planning and investment of your battery energy storages systems thanks to our Flexibility Offtake Agreements that allow you to get revenues from the various markets your asset can be placed on, with a tailored-made level of risks fitting your needs. Our team of highly skilled individuals, augmented by state of the art algorithms, will maximize the revenues your asset can make across time and MWs.
For our customers, we handle the pre-qualification at the network operator and the subsequent marketing in the TSO ancillary services market. We can manage the required data exchanges with various TSOs and counterparts.
In the Pfreimd power plant group, ENGIE operates a 12 MW battery storage system as a supplement to the pumped storage power plants, which contribute to a secure energy supply in Germany.
Globally, Engie operates 400MW of BESS across many markets, with the goal to build 10GW of BESS by 2030. The group optimizes significant portfolios of flexible assets globally: 4GW of pumped storage, 51GW of CCGTs and 123TWh of gas storages.
