Berlin, Saarbrücken, April 26, 2021 - ENGIE Deutschland and co.met have extended their successful cooperation with the solution component Smart street lighting. co.met GmbH supports utilities and municipalities throughout Germany with energy market and system services on the path to the digital energy age. The Saarbrücken-based company is now adding ENGIE's intelligent lighting solution to its product range.
"We are seeing an increasing interest on the part of our customers and partners to include street lighting in their digitalization strategy. Public lighting with its close-meshed network of street lights is virtually the ideal backbone for the digitalization of a city. That is why ENGIE's well thought-out, tried and tested and really smart lighting solution is a valuable addition to our portfolio," says Peter Backes, CEO of co.met.
Modernizing public lighting has three advantages for municipalities. The use of LED lights already significantly reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions. This also lowers the cost of electricity. In addition, further savings are achieved by sensor-controlled intelligent lighting management, which ensures that only as much light is made available at each lighting point as is actually required. In addition, the infrastructure required for the digitalization of lighting can be used perfectly and synergetically for further digital applications.
"As a partner of municipalities for decades, we are intensively engaged in the implementation of climate protection and the digitalization in cities. And we know where the obstacles are. With our modular range, we want to make the switch to intelligent lighting as easy as possible for municipalities," says Marcus Sohn, Head of Strategic Investments at ENGIE Deutschland.
The modular solution ranges from initial consultation and concept development through the manufacturer-independent selection and the assembly of the light fixtures to operation and features different financing options. In addition to the light fixtures, the service includes intelligent controllers that can operate the streetlight, a lighting management system that allows the fixtures to communicate with each other, and an intelligent lighting control system including remote access and monitoring. Digital advertising space enables regional advertising and citizen information on the electronic posters, which are attached to selected light poles and played in real time.
The lighting infrastructure is also a connecting point for further smart applications. Sensors can be used to measure environmental data or to evaluate and control traffic flows. To increase safety, an alarm system can also be linked to the lighting.
The control and visualization of the lighting points and additional information is carried out via the intuitive software of Flashnet, a globally active company specializing in intelligent lighting management systems.
