Cologne, Germany - Nine institutes of the Leibniz Association, the Max Planck and Fraunhofer Societies, and Friedrich Schiller University, two start-up centers, the Jena Technology and Innovation Park, and the BioInstruments Center with more than 50 companies - the Beutenberg Campus in Jena is a nationally and internationally renowned location for science and research. Around 3,400 people, more than half of them scientists, work there in more than 25 buildings. These include administration, laboratories, including safety levels S1 and S2, clean rooms, a nitrogen storage facility and a technical center. The Beutenberg Campus has now commissioned ENGIE Deutschland, one of the leading specialists for technology, energy and service, with the technical building management. Maik Lehmann, Branch Manager Facility Solutions Leipzig and responsible for the project at ENGIE Deutschland, says: "We are pleased to have convinced a new customer of ENGIE Deutschland's service portfolio with the Beutenberg Campus. The requirements of the property are technically highly demanding. It is precisely for such complex requirements that our team of experts brings the necessary expertise and many years of experience from similar projects."
Since January 1, 2022, a ten-person team from ENGIE Deutschland has been managing two 10/20 kV power supply networks with seven different transformer stations on campus. In addition, they are responsible for the supply of around 1,200 gas cylinders annually with nitrogen, argon, helium, hydrogen and custom-made special gases, as well as for looking after the complete I&C technology of the institutes. In addition, the specialists inspect around 30,000 portable electrical devices per year and look after four steam boilers with a total output of 4.3 t/h as well as three high-purity steam generators. A special feature on site is the almost one-kilometer-long collector corridor, an underground corridor system for media distribution that must be checked regularly. Furthermore, ENGIE Deutschland is responsible for around 200 freezers in the laboratories, where research materials from the past 60 years are stored. "For the Beutenberg Campus, operational safety and a 100 percent reliable supply are of utmost importance. We ensure this with a 24/7 on-call service. Thanks to our all-round carefree package, the sensitive research institutes and laboratories can rely on operations running reliably, powerfully and efficiently - day and night, 365 days a year," emphasizes Maik Lehmann. In addition to the Beutenberg Campus, ENGIE Deutschland's customer base has included the University of Stuttgart, the University of Hohenheim, the University of Tübingen and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich for many years.
