ENGIE Deutschland donates respiratory masks of the protection class FFP2 to the University Hospital Cologne.
Cologne – This donation helps where it is needed most: ENGIE Deutschland GmbH has today handed over 20,000 high-quality respiratory masks to the University Hospital of Cologne. The masks comply with the protection class FFP2 (FFP = Filtering Face Piece), i.e. they offer a significantly higher safety compared to the simple mouth-nose protection. They protect the carrier from aerosols, fine dust and smoke in the respiratory air and thus, for example, from the transmission of the corona virus. Due to the corona pandemic, FFP2 respirator masks are currently in high demand on the international market and are therefore difficult to obtain. At the same time, the need remains high in medical facilities that care for patients suffering from covid 19 lung disease. The protective masks effectively contribute to protecting the physicians employed there and the nursing staff from infection and to ensure that healthcare is provided on a sustained basis.
Partner of hospitals worldwide
The donation to the University Hospital of Cologne therefore comes at just the right time, as Manfred Schmitz, Managing Director of ENGIE Deutschland, headquartered in Cologne, says: "As ENGIE, we have been building, operating and energy partners of numerous hospitals in Germany and worldwide for many years. The corona pandemic is now presenting us with major challenges that we can only tackle together. It is therefore a matter of course for us to make a contribution in the fight against corona and to support the University Hospital Cologne with our donation." The University Hospital Cologne treats about 385,000 patients per year and has over 10,700 employees. The average utilization rate of the 1,573 beds is 87 percent. This makes the University Hospital Cologne one of the most efficient medical facilities in Germany.
Generous donation to the University Hospital Cologne: Manfred Schmitz, CEO of ENGIE Deutschland (r.), handed over 20,000 FFP2 respirator masks to Max Middeldorf, Head of Logistics, and Anke Lützenkirchen, Managing Director of MedUniServ GmbH.
